King Edward VII School, Melton Mowbray (Feb 2018)

King Edward VII School, Melton Mowbray (Feb 2018) from Lightning-Bolt on Vimeo.

For over 100 years KE7 school in Melton Mowbray was filled with students and teachers.  In 2011 the school closed. Being one of the students that went to KE7 i had to get in and look around… Why?….

Last year the building and land went up for sale and was bought for over £2.5 Million by Jelsons. Not long after planning permission was submitted and approved to knock the school down to build 120 homes.

The Mission was on.
Step one. Drone video to check the site. The drone showed we could get into 2 buildings as they had open doors. the following week the only other person that accepted this mission joined me. Armed with a Go Pro and SLR camera we visit the site one weekend. After sending the Drone up one more time to confirm the site was empty and no one was working we found out way in.

In the week between the first drone flight and the mission they had started to knock the buildings down and one of the buildings Known to us as the old science block was now nothing but a shell. But we move on through it and found out way into most of the buildings. We had only one rule. Do no damage. Even though the building was being destroyed or ethics were strong.

This video is made up of small clips of all parts of the site from my Go Pro (sorry for the jumpy video). This is the last memory I will have inside the school. 2 Weeks later and the shell that had been

Old Science Block

stripped was no longer standing.   to the left is the old

Old Science Block Rubble 🙁

science block and to the right is the pile of rubble that

was the old science block

Only 3 weeks earlier I was standing in that building. Empty and gutted but still standing. I’ll be sending the drone over again over the next months to watch the rest of it come down.
